Place types represent a holistic, larger scale vision for a community that sets an aspirational direction for future development and provides guidance on a desired mix of land uses, building form and design, mobility, and open space. Place Types include elements of Essex’s natural and built environment, like streets, parks, schools, workplaces, homes, and public space that make up the places we live, work, and play.
The Place Type Map allows residents to indicate the types and intensities of land use that are appropriate for a location and identify existing geographic areas of the Town that share common land-use, transportation, and visual characteristics.
Step 1: Get familiar with the eight (8) Place Types (by selecting the “Essex Place Types” button on the left sidebar tab and reviewing the place type descriptions.
Step 2 : Click the “Add Place Types” button at the top of the screen to select the appropriate Place Type marker and then place it on map.
These (8) Place Types represent the types of development and land uses that currently exist in Essex, as well as the aspirational character for those types.
Step 3: Add further comments on the place types you identified. The community can participate in the Place Type mapping exercise, review comments posted by other residents, and submit comments on the draft Place Type descriptions, until Friday, February 8, 2024.
